hkmaly is right. She landed behind them. Plus they're a militia group and not professional soldiers, so they may be a bit lax in their military protocol--especially since they've done this countless times before without facing anything other than feeble resistance.

Zgrssd: She landed BEHIND them, so it just proves how they "look forward to the fun" and not looking back. Lazy, but believable.

That the refuges are too scared to look to the sky (or even outside) is clear. But those militia guys just missed the fusion reaction landing. At night. Worst failed spotcheck ever. I guess that gives Shauwn between 2 and 5 rounds of surprise and confusion. And the rest of the time they will try to shoot her, wich we knos is not going to work. At least it did not work against her in single fire. Fusing anything Metalic is going to use up energy, so this might overcome her defenses if they start shooting autofire. Hope she has a plan here.
