Ah yes, Mr. Rage, he's another one of my characters. He always looks angry. But rarely is…I seriously need to sort this background trouble out! Err…umm…#will somebody help me!? will somebody help MEEEE!# Seriously. I don't know what to do… Crocty out…:(
Play around with the backgrounds... but keep in mind, there bodies are lines... if you use to vivid of colors or graphics in the backgrounds, you loos detail in the foreground. so, if you use backgrounds, go about 50% transparent, or more.
But who needs backgrounds any way?
Always do as Bocaj says...
Now eat that grape!
Yes...
Eat it...
Harder...
Faster...
Sexier...
...
OH SHI-

Oh.
Think of it this way:
Who is going to read this comic for the art?
The facial expressions are very humorous, and I often love them, but if I want art, I'm going to read blood/hound or something.
I say use the backgrounds for comedic purposes only. Use them to show immense emotion and whatnot. That way you can exaggerate emotion and add to the humor.
Constant backgrounds don't seem necessary.
Hmm...so make them pale?...Well In that knock knock comic, when Vinny was angry, the background appeared...So maybe I should only do backgrounds where it's fully needed.
Bocaj, the problem is that in the last comic, there were those backgrounds, and some people liked them. Some hated them...It's a national dilemma!
Well, with this particular comic, Mr. Rage is such a powerful looking figure that he doesn't really need a background. I mean, he just jumps right in your face. A background could take away from that...I pretty much concur with what TheMidge said too--keeping it simple peobably works best with your concept.
I was told by a very wise graphic design teacher once that, if you do use colors in the background, stick with subtle cool colors. Don't use warm colors. Of course, this doesn't apply to all comics but in your case I think it's a good rule to follow...
Another 2c...
why have a background color or pattern or whateva at all? its a stick figure and you have played with the idea of them being doodles where they interact with the artist/creator and their environment...so keep is simple. No need to over think and put in clutter in the background. my 2 cents.
as to mr. rage...he needs to be holding a kitten while saying that.
Anonymous' idea sounds good, or you could just add a simple pattern? That's what I always do - just do a scribble or summat! ;)

Well, why not try a compromise and make the backgrounds there, but pale? Pail? I dunno how it's spelled. It seems kind of convoluted, but it might work...

That's right! (speaking to both of you...)
therealtj at 3:04PM, Oct. 22, 2007
When he told me "Leave this place now or I'll eat your kittys head", he just meant welcome to the neiborhood!

Yeah I agree with Bocaj. Backgrounds = not a necessity.
