Mr Mentor begins to relate his story. “There are beings in the universe who rose to intelligence a million years before the human race. Long ago, they moved out to explore the galaxy. ”One race, let us call them the Pahom, as closely as we can pronounce it, studied and recorded each star system. “Many of the worlds they discovered were barren and lifeless. But sometimes they found other living beings. ”Some joined their galactic quest but others were not ready. The Pahom left automatic guardian ships to protect the living planets until their time came. “One day the Pahom found the Earth, full of living creatures, but no technological society as yet. They recorded what they had found, assigned a mechanical protector and travelled on.” More next week.
