Ben's Book of Banned Beasts- Page 2

From the site.
Now this page was an experiment that went mostly wrong. Notice how weird shaped it is? It's all because I was experimenting with a new process, (which I've perfected at this point) but did so much work on it I couldn't just scrap it and redo it. So what we end up getting here is a bit of a page that's off scale, but don't worry, next week's page is done exactly as I intended, because I had figured out the process after this one was finished.
So, what is the process exactly?
Well, my original idea was to draw a single comic page by drawing a sequence of panels across a few pages, my reasoning being that if I draw the panels larger over all, and just merge them into a single image later, I could have better line-art and more detailed panels than if I were to draw the contents of every panel on a single page. Now, this reasoning is sound, because it would work, my problem being that when I made my panels, I did them by hand and my measurements were entirely off, instead of getting to correct width, I ended up making the page much longer due to the size of the panels I made.
Then I thought about how for Cosmic Dash, I use digital templates to print up all the panels of the page. Why not do the same thing I tried with this page; just split the page into two parts, landscape-style and print them up using the computer's measurements and scaling, that way when scanned, they come together perfectly as though I drew them on a single sheet of paper.
You'll see how much nicer it turned out on saturday. :)

Define "bad" luck...

I think some of the confusion here is that the Aitvaras is not farting those meteors out, but rather when it caws, a meteor falls to earth. It will be much much much obvious next week. CheshireCatGrin: They're responsible for bad luck too, so that's the angle I went with. Fitz: Angn will be back as soon as Ben has a little time in the spotlight. :D

KILL IT WITH FIRE. Oh, wait...

Interesting experiment! Ah, personally I do it ALL digitally so panel size and dimension can be changed easily and quickly. And because it's all digital I can work as big as the computer can handle so detail and neatness isn't a problem ;) Cool page BTW. EVen if that thing sat down on the bed it'd be bad luck! Bed sheets are expensive!

Loving the artwork in this one so far! But I miss the alien guy!

I see no issues with the panels... maybe that's my untrained eye. Anyway, please tell me that chicken didn't just launch a flaming pile of crap from its... er... backside.

Try flipping the chicken pages. The way it is at the moment the chicken is facing left while the "flow" is to the right. It may seem weird and destroy the logic of some panels but it makes a comic page read better. That said, panel seven works as the chicken is facing down to the next panel on the next row... And try not to overuse the text effects....(Sorry, just good advice)

page is excellent!

Hm...I thought an Aitvaras brought good luck to a house, but took the soul of the house's owner. Ah well, maybe that's just one myth about it. But at least I've heard of it!

lol, bad luck? you don't say! hey thats a good process. I was thinking of that aswell, but I'm afraid I will draw too much and I hate cutting off images to fit them into a window...good it works for you!
