Sure, Hitomi lives alone… but she doesn't do anything but study.
Her uncles have a lot, lot of money. The way they got all that money is something that will be explained in the main story.
I don't blame the officer for misreading the situation. Having bruises all over your body is something that raises suspicions, isn't it?
