Centuries after the reign of Kestreal Lorray her direct descendent Eurris Aht-Kestrix has fallen victim to an uprising from within. The Kestrean throne has been taken in a military coup by the usurper Gordeale. Gordeale has kidnapped Eurris's daughter Selea Arum-Kestrix (the rightful heir) as a hostage. Here, Eurris confronts the usurper in a final battle with the future of the entire Empire, and her daughter's life, at stake.
