Dreaming
Little Swan on Oct. 23, 2009
If we are asleep, our body is only ticking over, but is not doing anything.
Therefore, do we dream just so that our brain remains busy enough to stay alive? Does our brain create situations in order to give it something to do while it regulates breathing and whatnot? Is our brain able to keep breathing/growth & repair, blood flowing, temperature regulation etc going while it is not a part of the real world? Or does it generate its own world to keep it alive, to give it something active to do so it doesn't sink into a nothingness of regulation and therefore cease to exist and eventually we die as it is moving so slowly?
Does dreaming stop the auto-pilot from switching off?
Is our brain afraid to die, or is does it miss the waking world?
Is it simply bored?
And how does this effect people that do not dream? Or do they actually dream but simply cannot remember?
What do you guys think?

that's interesting thought, but once I read that the brain must get some sleep and have dreams to put the memories in the right place and cathegorize them into more important and less important. The less important one are somehow tend to be forgotten later, as if we remebered everything that happened we would go insane, as there is too many impules in our life to remember them all. Um.. I'm not sure if it's understandable what I wrote... ;)

Lothar- Good point. But although the brain is a part of you, we cannot say the brain IS you. Technically only the frontal lobe is, as that is the section of your personality, emotions etc. The rest is solely for the parts of us that we have no control over, save memory, which we do not control but can tap into. Hilarie- Thank you Tommy- The brain does, indeed. But dreams themselves can be considered as a whole new world- one we don't create. They are a jumble of all we know, yes, but are not necessarily things we piece together. I do agree though, not all people have a brain that works. :)

Dear Little Swan, When we dream we are sorting out the the impluses our brains recieved throught the day. Our brains do not create its own world but reacts to what is around us in our world. A brain can't get bored! We can get bored. Our brains function 24 hours a day. At least they are supposed to.One needs only to look around to see not every one has a working brain:) tommy

lol wut ? you talk about the brain like its something seperate from you , the brain IS you ! waking conciousness is just the top layer of man many layers . lower level brain is dreaming all the time just like the little light on the front of the computer , you just dont notice it untill all other lights go out
