That was an excellent story, well done Al!
Hmm... since we're practically at the end, I'll like to show you guys *fanfare* The Heroes Unite TV Tropes page! There's not much there, but you guys are free to add to it if you like.
"Epic retcon" indeed!
Obviously, I'm very glad that it was the Bombshell chapter of "Chronicles" which eventually got made. Al didn't only do the character(s) justice, he actually improved on many details. I'll try to do justice to some of these myself... much, much later, when Bombshell's own comic catches up ^_^
The bit about Hurt Locker is very interesting, and it makes a lot of sense for her character as well. However, you may all know that I never really bothered to delived a good practical explanation for why Bombshell walks around half-naked. My own explanation was always psychological. In her own comic, Bombshell is well aware of her limitations (I hope to underscore this part of her characterization over the next issues... assuming it makes sense to plan them at this point, what with my slow update schedule), and the advantage which the suit gives her outweighs the disadvantages. For a normal person, it actually makes sense not to bog yourself down with additional weight. Batman is able to wear an armor because he is incredibly well trained. But I don't think any regular person could run in something like that, much less jump or climb buildings. But just like Acrobat continuity, Bombshell continuity is not the same as Bombshell-within-HU continuity. On HU and HA I've made a habit of playing up the "superhero" side of her - just like Batman would be almost superhumanly perfect in JLA titles, while on his own titles, he tends to be more human. So, different explanations make sense, as they are related to different aspects of her character.
Anyway... that's an amazing number of page-views! Take a bow, Al!
First off, I want to thank Nepath and Abt Nihil for letting me play in the HU-nverse, and with Bombshell especially.
HU CHRONICLES was supposed to be a whole series of "solo" stories about some HU-characters. I was assigned Bombshell, who was delightful to draw. (I was evidently the only one who finished his story.) I decided to mix in the Commander and background for the Commander, HU-HQ in general, and tried to tie it in with the larger HU-nverse with mention of Acrobat's Aegis, cameos of Dasien, Hellfire, Energize, Titan, and Relik, mention Dasien baddie the Gooch and Energize baddie Chegwin. All this to make it different from a solo Bombshell story, which Abt Nihil does so admirably.
After a while, despite the tradition that has Black Canary, Wonder Woman, etc. fighting in sexy revealing costumes, I had trouble justifying it to myself, just from a practicality viewpoint. Then I saw a clip from HURT LOCKER where the bomb expert started taking OFF his protective gear, and it kind of fell into place. I could also use it as a springboard to Bombshell eventually helping form Heroes ALLIANCE.
It was fun to create Ransom, Kingly, et al. Abt and Nepath were INCREDIBLY generous with their support and advice while I was doing this story inbetween Mindmistress, Flickerflame, and Crossoverlord.
The HU-nverse is a fun place. I look forward to CROSSOVERKILL, where Mindmistress will visit the HU-nverse...with...interesting...results.
Thank s again, Nepath and Abt, and thank you ALL for reading.
Interesting take on the "why fight half-naked" debate. As you know, I adopted a slightly different reasoning, but that's as good a reason as anything DC or Marvel have come up with!
Very nice, I can see why Bombshell would dress the way she does, and shows her views on HU procedure, and also nodding to another brillant comic perhaps :P
