Back in my day, cell phones were strictly prohibited on school property, and if you were caught with such, it was confiscated, locked in the principal's office, and you did not get it back until the end of the school year. Then again, back in my day, cell phones were glorified cordless landline phones you could take with you wherever you went (and hope for a signal).
