They Got to be Good for Something

They really are starting to pile up.

I went down to the local Wally World the other day and lo and behold there were seven shiny new PS3 60gb’s mint in box just sitting there, being ignored, shunned as though the city of Chillicothe was a great Amish Ordnung and the PS3 was just caught with a home theatre system and 61” plasma screen hooked up to a generator in his barn.

Having such a surplus of available product when the PS3 is supposed to be in a shortage speaks its own volumes about the waning success of the console. I won’t be joining the doomsayers in proclaiming the end of Sony Playstation, nor will I join the Wii or 360 camps in proclaiming victory for “our” side. Hell I still play my Dreamcast more than anything else, and that makes me something like the video gaming equivalent of a jobless hippy, sitting on the street corner and playing my guitar to woeful dirges on the dangers of corporations and the world changing wonders of hemp and LSD.

I wouldn’t count the PS3 out yet though. Sony has plenty of die hard fans and if you recall the PS2 launch was less than spectacular in terms of software that actually made use of the hardware. Six months from now you will start seeing titles for the PS3, the Wii, and even the 360 that will start to really make use of the new technology. And when you look at the hardware specs, the PS3 has it all over the other consoles.

Oh and I love the David Bowie reference in this comic. Anybody not get that one?
