This one today is about smoking… JT is the biggest company in Japan, and they control most government officials. It was very strange when the government started fining people smoking in Tokyo. But then it occurred to me, they get more money from the purchase of the tobacco products and the fines!
This one comes from ZenKai, again, his comic is You Know Nothing
And Raw Fish? up-dated today!
don't miss it, it is a full color Sunday comic!

Really interesting, and something I hadn't thought of before, though I was aware that Japanese men love to smoke, but I'm curious, what's the percentage of women who smoke? I'm against smoking myself for personal reasons, but I used to smoke. Florida's pretty much become a non-smoking state. You're not so much limited when you're outside, but all restuarants, and even most bars, you can't smoke in anymore. The rule is, if you serve food, you can't have smokers. So any bar that doesn't serve food can still be a smoking establishment, but they're scary to go into! Actually pretty much any inside structure, is no smoking now. Course this has nothing to do with the tobacco companies as far as I know. Hey Corey, I wanted to respond to a comment you left on Panda panda awhile back. Yeah I'm slow, it was over two weeks ago, but you said you comic doesn't hold a candle to mine. Which is just silly! Your comic is great! It's fun, it's factual, and you're character designs are one of a kind, which really makes the whole thing a stand out production. PS - Sorry I wrote a book here! :P

Hey, as a smoker in California, this seems pretty much the same direction we're going, but at the behest of of the non-smokers in the state rather than "Pa Tabacco." At least you guys still GET designated smoking areas.

Wow makes going to japan that much more appealing

I'd say that's actually a really good idea! Not everyone wants to die of second-hand smoke inhalation :D

Wow they have their own "club" booths and everything. Enjoyed the facts, I learn so much about Japan I wouldn't normally by reading this comic.

In Canada you can smoke anywhere except on Public Property and inside businesses (including bars) and government buildings. I'm not sure about places like the subway or such things since I don't live in a big city.

Wow! I didn't know this about smoking in Japan. Do they fine foreigners as well? It is very strange with the movement of Phillip Morris and other tobacco companies putting money into adverts and programs to stop smoking. Honestly I think if you are doing it on your own time and not around people who don't smoke I think it should be fine...no need to confine people to a little hut. I think of a short story from Stephen King called The Ten O'Clock People...
