Hidee-ho!
Today's question comes from “zaneeba_slave”
You can check out To Bill a Hungry Stickbun one of many comics from him!
Also if you have not seen, Raw Fish? has updated today as well.
Got any questions pertaining to Japan? Just PQ those questions to me… well you know!

Puff_Of_Smoke at 3:21PM, Oct. 12, 2007

Have you read "Manga, Sixty Years of Japanese Comics" by Paul Gravett? Or "Dreamland Japan"?

The anime that makes it in mainstream america is nothing compared to the extent that exists over here!!! And good luck finding some of the anime that is popular(mainstream ie Pokemon, Naruto) in america here. But there is a wealth of anime for the serious anime fans. Awesome strip.

Wow, informative. I knew some of that but not all. You have a good grasp on Japanese culture don't you? I think I learned things. You have accomplished something 12 years of schooling couldn't. You made me want to learn more. Nicely played.
zaneeba_slave at 7:30PM, Oct. 1, 2007
wow. Thats wierd. But I guess japanese anime fans look alot better then anime fans in america lol.

Some anime actually becomes more popular in the west than it did in Japan. I know Escaflowne was, to the point that they made an extremely crappy movie for it to give us westerners something else to watch. An interesting fact about the Vampire D sequel, Bloodlust was that it was originally recorded in English first. And hey Midge, that anime is for kids mentality is slowly changing over in the west as well. Just as video games have become an adults pastime to the point of bringing in more money than the movie industry per year, all us anime watching fools are getting older, and staying true to our passions. Most hardcore fans I know and love are actually around the 30 years old range. But most of us tend to enjoy it quietly and on the downlow. ;)

So...many...words... Damnit, I SWEAR I WILL THINK OF A GOOD QUESTION FOR THIS!
Insizwa at 11:46AM, Oct. 1, 2007
Damn you Naruto!! Some animes would be best not existing. Especially since people edit the cool out of it.
n_y_japlander at 8:40AM, Oct. 1, 2007
Thanx for your comment Tweebus, nice to see you here! would have to see it... cause there are book stores here, that ONLY sell manga! Midge, the only anime I saw in the states, many moons ago... Vampire Hunter D, and then I saw it again here.... very, very edited to say the least (wrong tranlations as well) BadWolf... yes I thought of you when I put Hamtaro in this... Anubis & Peipei, glad you like it!

My first intro to anime came from Speed Racer long, long ago. Of course I didn't know what it was at the time. But it's not just for kids. I have several X-rated anime comics in my collection. I was at Barnes & Noble the other day and ran across the manga section. Shelve & shelves of it 8 feet tall and at least 16 feet wide! Hundreds upon hundreds of em! Is the market saturated with it is my question? How do you compete with that?
TheMidge28 at 6:01AM, Oct. 1, 2007
it is amazing! the problem here in the states is that a number of anime have been editted from a more mature rating to kid friendly one. Also Anime is accepted as a major form of entertainment as in the states it seems to be classified as only for kids and teenagers...its sad.
ncbaddwolf at 4:13AM, Oct. 1, 2007
Is it cool or sad that I know practically all of the Animes you are showing here. Especially Hamtaro!..Anime Hamsters? Everyone wins with that one!
Anubis at 12:56AM, Oct. 1, 2007
ahhh manga and anime my favorite forms of entertainment
Peipei at 12:04AM, Oct. 1, 2007
Yea. I always knew that Anime is used heavily in japan. Just look at all the animes and mangas :3
