Happy Shunbun no Hi
Jonko on March 19, 2009
I said I wasn't going to update, but I had time to whip up a page so I thought I'd introduce this Japanese holiday.
There are 2 days, Shunbun no Hi and Shuubun no Hi when Japanese people must worship their ancestors by getting the whole family together and cleaning the graves and also offering incense and flowers. Since we don't have many religious holidays, this day is really important for many Japanese families.
FYI the grave says “Jonko” on it, it's my own grave!!!
Ok there will be a real update tomorrow, I promise!

Hm. I respect the tradition immensely - in part due to the implied obligation to be worthy of having your grave washed by the next several generations. For myself, I've made a point of not knowing where parents graves are - rather than commit an act of appropriate public respect. :>

I wish my family could celebrate that. I'm not saying that all of us don't visit our deceased relatives graves, but I wish 'a lot more' of us could :P.
