That may seem a little cruel, but robots are just machines at this point and the roboticists need to know how to fix something when it goes wrong.
If you guys want to know a fancy word, the perception of pain is called “nociception”. Show off to your friends!

Congrats on the feature and the dd award nomination, both well deserved! (Glad to see I didn't vote in vain ;p) I think "best use of medium" is an artwork-specific award, and what "best black and white", "best color art", "best sprite/pixel art" etc. used to be... just rolled into one.
