I have a feeling the old man is stepping in because he genuinely isn't sure Max will lose that fight. Though, I also have a suspicion the two guys are trying contain Max more than hurt him. Something made far more difficult when Max is, justifiably, willing to harm them.
That seems about right, the idea that they’re containing him (or trying to). Max isnti playing though! This old guy may have saved the two brutes some serious damage!
