#436 - Night of Thunder

Today is November 5th.. And here in Britain, that means one thing. Bonfire Night :) this is a traditional celebration dating back to 1605 when a group of um… Political Activists.. tried to assassinate the King of England in the Gunpowder Plot.. They failed and many were caught and executed.. depending on which way you want to look at it, we either celebrate their failure, or their desire for change.. Mostly we use the date as an excuse to combine Man's 2 greatest loves.. Setting things on fire and blowing stuff up :)

All we really have left are the words.. “Remember remember, the 5th of November. Gunpowder, Treason and Plot. I can think of no reason, why the Gunpowder Treason, should ever be forgot..”

I guess it's a good thing I never went to high school, then! (Probably the main reason I know about Guy Fawkes day is the large number of British novels I've either read or had read to me, though. And the only way I would have been able to tell if they were on the curriculum or not was if I didn't like them and tried to give up. My mom was sneaky like that!)

Gotta remember, Kids aren't actually TAUGHT anything anymore, except how to pass an end of highschool achievement test. They don't want them to learn content, just how to pass that test.
