It is incorect to say that guns beat magic. Depending on the level of the spells it can become far grater than guns. "Mahou Sensei Negima" for example.

@ WarlockD: You're actually incorrect about the crossbow. A relatively minor, but irrepairable, flaw in the design of the crossbow (that it could not be used to shoot "down" due to the crossbow bolt falling out) meant that the longbow was continued to be used until guns became commonplace. Added to which, the fact that a skilled longbowman could fire far faster than any crossbowman meant that, even outside of defensive structures, longbowmen were still significantly useful in ranged combat.

Steve could tell him the truth; it's a mini cannon. Or he could tell Mr Seafood there it was a special deathmagic wand. I would be worried about ANY suposed magic user pointing something at me with that level of confidence. It tells me that they are insane, or believe they can handle me, (and not in a good way.) Possibly both.

I tend to think otherwise though. Guns got rid of the trained sammeri and knights. Hell, even the crossbow killed off the longbowmen. Why teach someone magic for 5 years when you can give him a shot gun and wing it?
