We've seen Steve actively stealing while reaping before, and Sally's Toys (Weapons, usually made by Dwarves) tend to be on the expensive side. Also, we have been shown that Sally enjoys the exploring and adventuring parts of treasure hunting (even when she knows there isn't any treasure to be found), and doesn't get to do it all that often. All that while ignoring the fact that most Treasure Hunters get killed by traps, so either Sally or Steve would have to come back soon anyway, and her reaction makes more sense to me than your gender-based discrimination.
