Like the backstory to Fatima's people!

@jamoecw: I have a little back story for a lot of the cadets, especially those who are less human. Most of those back stories have never been delved into but they help when it comes to writing for those characters all the same. Mudge needs to be able to maintain contact with the item he is trying to read from so water or inhaled particles would not work for him. At the moment he has a hard enough trying to control direct skin-to-skin contact (as we saw when Kaycee grabbed his wrist) and contact with items that have been in touch with other people need a lot of focus and offer up only a fairly faint reading. Side-note: the super painful brain experience Mudge has when he takes a reading stems out of a dream I once had of a guy experience something similar. Also, total trivia, Mudge (and Wombat-man for that matter) are both characters from much earlier unpublished cartooning projects who found their way into Magellan.

fatima is one of my better liked heroes in magellan. the fact that her intro was done topless didn't hurt. i hadn't realized how thought out the phernian's origin was. since mudge gets imprints off of things that have touched someone, couldn't he get something off of the water in fatima's tank? how about smelling someone? what does he get impressions from, cells from the person, or a psychic residue from proximity?

@DAJB I don't think people were ready for tentacled people as heroes in the 30ies of the last century... Nice effect on the water in the next-to-last panel.

lol, true- although he kind of gets a psychic imprint off of things like clothing (maybe not all that clear from the earlier sequence) which, if you think about it, is even more appalling than just sniffing it...!

Nice backstory. And, if you're going to have an "underwater specialist" her design is so much more original than those of Aquaman or Namor! Plus she has no underwear for Mudge to sniff. That [i]has[/i] to be a good thing!
