Chapter 1: Wannabe | 47

Although this page was never intended to be fanservice it kind of ended up looking like it anyway!! Also, yes, the dorm is fully co-ed and poor Nadine gets to see a lot more than she might've expected on her first day! erm, anyway… moving right along…
Kaycee already has pics of her mother, (deceased) sister and her saviour (Go!Anna) in her locker - how's that for organised? Tomorrow, the Welcome Ceremony kicks off… thanks for reading and commenting.

Many thanks for the feedback everyone. I guess that when I started this comic I really wanted it to be about interesting people and how they had a life that existed behind the BIG FIGHT scenes. Particularly I'm a big fan of the small guy who moves in the shadows of the big players and I've tilted this comic strongly in that direction - so it's principally about the cadets on the bottom of the rung of the superhero ladder rather than about Force Magellan, the team on the top rung. That will change with time I suppose if the cadets go on to graduate etc. I'm also a big fan of little human quirks, and for some reason I find that moment with Nadine struggling to do up her top button to be very sweet... :D

this page is a good example of why i like this comic. little things like tan lines, the shower slippers, the office space under the beds, the desire to make her family proud at an appropriate time, and nadine needing help with the top button. tan lines are often forgotten, or summed up with easy to do tan lines that doesn't quite match the personality of the person (what kind of swimsuit would the character wear? a banana hammock, trunks, a one piece, bikini, bra style?). it seems to me that a lot of foreign cultures are really into shower slippers, sometimes they are even required. easy to forget for artists, yet would be quite prevalent in any sort international locker room. bill's choice reflects that he is relatively weak to toxins and such. the desk under the bed is a fairly modern space saving technique, so it makes sense that magellan would use such a technique. and now that the focus is on a locker room scene it would be all too easy to forget about the desks under the beds, not to mention closets. the thought of wanting to make her parents proud fits well, not only because she is getting dressed in a dress uniform (which is intended to bring out pride), but that she didn't include everyone whom she had a picture for. i can't quite put my finger on why it would feel forced to include her idol as well, but it does. nadine having trouble with her top button is a nice little quirk that fits, as not all conservative women are good at getting into dress uniforms. i'd imagine that girls that don't come from a wealthy background and haven't gone through the effort to wear formal wear on their own wouldn't be able to button that ever difficult top button. p.s. @al: captain america is definitely beyond a normal human. he is immune to mundane diseases and toxins, and less noticeable is that he is at the limit of human capability in nearly every respect, something which can't really be done (ever see a steroid popping weight lifter run good enough to be a track star?).

Once again, I caught up! Tom's Dance, Nadine's hiccup, Fatima's strangling, and some (unintended) fanservice to top it all off - it's such a joy to read this comic :D

As often as Xmung has had to draw bare people in his other webcomic, I would think it'd be easy for him to remember the tan lines! And when you're powerless in a group of powered heroes, you have to be organized! Just ask Batman or Captain America!---Al

I was thinking the same thing as DAJB - the addition of the tan lines in the colouring is genius!

What are those green things on that guys feet in the 1st panel?

I don't know why but it tickles me that you remembered all the tan lines! So often forgotten!
