the phrase could mean that the phernians have some how come to call the lepidocybium as butterfish, as sometimes they are mislabeled as, instead of some of the stromateidae fishes. ultimately the pernians saying would then be far more logical than the dry skins saying.

I was originally going to write 'butterflies', that being the usual phrase but then decided that Fatima probably wouldn't be that familiar with them - imagine my delight when I found that butterfish actually exist... :-)
