@jamoecw: re fainting, true enough... a full blast of emotions might make someone do nothing more than poop their pants but there's a plausible enough reason (for Tom anyway) for the fainting which will be offered up in the next update... :)

shastab24, don't forget councilor troy, in almost every episode when they were facing some sort of alien entity or some such she always gave the captain insight in how to react. which in turn led to some really good decisions that seemed realistic do to that input (did picard ever make a truly bad decision, even his 'bad' decisions were good ones in the end). the problem with empathic characters is that stereotypically they are weak and frail characters, even in heroes. before peter started getting other peoples powers he seemed lost and weak, knowing what was right but not having the power to do anything about it, and then he got power to do something about it, then he found a whole nest of trouble due to being able to make a difference. awfully cliche, which is why he wasn't that great of a character. in the end it isn't so much a problem that other people have with empathy, but the character traits associated to such an ability. personally i found the 'empath overload' a bit cheesy, as there are people with no emotional inhibitors and thus have all of their emotions out of control at all times, they are pretty messed up, but they don't ever faint from too many emotions. but then again they have had that problem from birth, so it didn't hit them suddenly (unless there was another injury associated), so there really isn't a good comparison. so i accepted that fainting would occur, it makes enough sense. it is one of the few blind acceptances in this comics (weird, huh? you know with aliens and super powers and magic and super science and stuff).

@shastab24 - I don't think Knox was a bad idea. Evil creatures/people who litteraly feed on fear is an old staple. As to the comic, rule number 7 if you suspect mind control, don't let people know you suspect.

As you had mentioned in the comments for the last comic, emotion mannipulation can be a powerful ally. Yet, in Heroes, they never seemed to understand that. They gave a character (Peter) "empathy", but decided to jzz it up as really being power mimicry only tangentially applied to emotions. And then a later character (Knox) whose power is tied to emotions, but this time it's other people's fear that makes him stronger. Nobody had real empathic abilities, which would have been cheaper to film. If they were going for coolness, then they should have looked to Freya, who is awesome for her power (or even the show Mutant X, which they [i]must[/i] have known about and included an empath in the group early in the series). And the comic reveals more to characters and to the audience about who these two are. I don't remember if Fake Karma was ever called Maya before this, but it is important, I would say.
