Chapter 4: Bad Karma | 147
xmung on June 20, 2011
Today's page reintroduces the rest of Force Magellan… Vertigo, the team leader (can create disorientation), Tros (six limbed alien on cultural exchange with the M'labbic), Ranger Bill (from another dimension with a fantasy induced nanobot suit) with Eposch who we already know from previous appearances. Some people (hi, Al!) seem to think “Ranger Bill” is a silly name, but I quite like it myself - it's derived from Ranger as in “Lone Ranger”… so he's kind of like a high tech Western Ranger. Or at least that's how I think of it - your appreciation milage may vary.
So this page is deliberatly busy and hectic to indicate that a lot is happening and things are getting chaotic and it seems to work on that level!
Tomorrow… the new arrivals make a discovery…
Thanks for reading and commenting. Be sure to check out Crossoverkill which features Hoodoo from Magellan and a heap of other awesome superhero webcomics…

I think Ranger Bill's name suits him.

Yeah, I always thought that, for the type of character that he is, Ranger Bill fit rather well. If he was a steroid-beserker then maybe not. In some ways Captain Victoria is similar (remember her from Chapter 3?) - except for the fact that it is a play on an Australian State's name (ie Victoria) as in Captain America except at the state, not national level... also her name happens to be Vickie, but that's another story! But yeah, Ranger Bill is a bit of a goof ball (and in fact his first name is Jake, not Bill) so it suits!

i always felt that it lent a sort of reality to the names in magellan. in pretty much every comic the heroes have snazy names, or lame super heroish names. in real life if you look at wrestlers, they have a great range of name types, all based on the image they want to convey and the personality of the individual picking/making the name. ranger bill seems like it comes from the 40's sort of heroes, not super heroes mind you, but cowboy type hero. it sort of has this innocence of that era, which fits with someone who wasn't a geek growing up, but wants to act like role model (whether or not he succeeds is a whole other matter). in fact that your cadets don't have predetermined names that they just know is kinda nice as well. as for the distraction, you'd think that part of the training would be to block out such distractions, as such things would typically happen in an emergency situation. though a councilor and a raw cadet might have problems. Having collected an army and concentrated his forces, he must blend and harmonize the different elements thereof before pitching his camp.

It's always good to see the top super-team in Magellan-dom assemble. I don't think my problem is with the "Ranger" as much as the "Bill" in all honesty... ---Al

I always liked this page for the "hard to focus" part.
