Chapter 4: Bad Karma | 164

I love writing for Ken Spence… somehow it allows me to access my inner hard-ass! When I first started doing Magellan a fellow cartoonist wrote to tell me that they though the comic was quite good but that they thought my characterisation was too blatent, that Spence was obviously the villain. Well turns out he was wrong, it was Karmaya instead!
Tomorrow… Psi-Jector to the rescue!
Thanks for reading and commenting. Be sure to check out Crossoverkill which features Hoodoo from Magellan and a heap of other awesome superhero webcomics…

On hemmed-in ground, resort to stratagem. On desperate ground, fight.

hmm, i guess that cartoonist never went to boot camp. in boot camp standards ken is a cream puff, and you learn that being a hard ass can come in many flavors, those that are typically seen in the villain role are different than the old salt sergeant type. i guess most people can't relate to that type of person as being a good guy. i think spence is a pretty good character to have at a hero academy, in fact i think that there should be more of them, after all if heroing is dangerous work then there should be a decent number of fatalities, and those that survive wouldn't care much about being nice if it meant that more people will die. he also wouldn't want to get too attached, since more mistakes are going to be made when they are new, and thus the odds of them ending up in a casket soon after graduation is higher than later, so it would just make their deaths (and the deaths of those whom shouldn't have died as a result of their actions/inactions) that much more painful.
