Kaycee sure isn't making any friends with those two! I have to say that I struggled quite a lot with Vertigo's look in this chapter. The main problem was I wasn't working from a strong initial design. When I first started expanding the cast of Magellan and came up with the Force Magellan concept most of the character designs were little more than a quick sketch - after all I didn't expect that they'd be paying much of a role in any of the stories, if at all. That was some three years previous and by this story that had obviously changed somewhat. To some extent I was also unhappy with Hoodoo and Ranger Bill's design but that silly headgear Vertigo was wearing really started to annoy me in this story. That said, I still like how she looks in the third panel. Also, that last panel with DragonKlaw is just rockin'!
Tomorrow… wake up!!
Thanks for reading and commenting. Be sure to check out Crossoverkill which features Hoodoo from Magellan and a heap of other awesome superhero webcomics…

The way I see "future shock" in the Magellan context is that it's a disjoint between one's own identity and one's perception of their future self. We kind of see ourselves existing in the future in a particular way and unless something happens to change it then we continue to believe that in the future we wil be ... whatever. An example of something that might change it is being told one has a disease and will die in a few months, or, as often happens, being told by a fortune teller that some event is going to happen. In Magellan time travel instance the disjoint is much greater because one is presented with a concrete example of one's future fate and it can be very shocking.

I like Vertigo's look. It reminds me of Marvel's Lilandra of the Shi'ar Empire.

it would seem that returns are not recorded as they were once before.

i wonder what psychological mechanisms are at work with future shock, i think it may simply be a shattering of one's inner identity. Now this foreknowledge cannot be elicited from spirits; it cannot be obtained inductively from experience, nor by any deductive calculation.
