Her curse may be unrelated to her tone deafness. For example, it may simply amplify it, cause her to have an issue with a romantic partner (which, in this case, amplifies her tone deafness to painful levels), or she may have a curse that is completely unrelated to her romantic life and tone deafness. ...but, yes, the tone deafness being directly related to the mystery curse is the most likely explanation here.
