I’m not translating that name Lan just saddle HK with quite yet. You ambitious Googlers can figure it out I’m sure. HK can’t seem to get a break, her life keeps changing. But the story wouldn’t be interesting otherwise. This now has Hindu Kush’s new surname spelled right too.

Your family name is call your SURNAME, unless she is thinking of it in a bit of an accent. :) SUR in this case relates to a French prefix meaning "after" or "above". Compare to surcoat, for an outer or over-coat.

It seems I wrote the word wrong in my notes. seelesucher is the correct spelling. I wrote it down wrong in my notes. I will fix it soon. Thank you Dragonfire. I would have perpetuated the mistake otherwise.

actually it is Seelensucher, Seele is the singular. That would indicate, that she is searching for just one soul. Seelensucher is somebody with the job to search for souls. Btw: Soulsearching is not something you can tranlsate directly, in German it would translate to "in sich gehen", to go into yourself. Where are my 2 cents?

So I had to break up it up into two words. Seelen, (topographic name from Middle Low German sele 'meadow', 'bog'. metonymic occupational name for a harness maker, from Middle Low German sele 'harness'.). Sucher, (German: from Middle High German suocher 'searcher', 'investigator', 'pursuer', an agent derivative of suochen 'to seek (out)', probably an occupational nickname for a huntsman. Respelling of Jewish (from Lithuania) Zukher, a nickname from a derivative of Yiddish zukhn 'to seek'.) So bog searcher. Guess the brothers are in a swamp somewhere
