True, I like doing “social” story arcs that show where characters at that time are in their relationships to each other. Too bad many of these types of situations in a lot of anime and manga (and maybe webcomics too) are almost all about “servicing the fans” so it were.

So in other words, he is friends with her because she paid attention to him while he was looking mutilated, and because she isn't mugging him to start a relationship with her now that she knows who he is. Of course, seeing his past, I wonder if he'll ever get laid, given his desires, his standards, and the possibility that he thinks that every woman who knows who he is and acts attracted to him is just after his wealth.

Aw. It's good to have friends like that. Not all relationship arcs are fan service. Stories without social interaction are unrealistic.
