*not pictured here: an actual zygote. Or technically a blastocyst? I think it was originally some algae under a microscoope, i raided a stock photo library for this, smooshed a bunch of filters over it so it doesn't look much like the original file anyway. Also if she was at the point of weight gain, the foetus must have been larger than a blastocyst. Tho they probably make her increase her food intake once the pregnancy starts. Honestly I just found this pic and thought i would look cool. :U
It's quite fascinating how real pregnancies avoid killing off the foreign tissue of the embryo. Since it *is* technically a parasite/tumor to the mother's body with its own DNA, the body's gotta pacify its own immune system with special horomones and such.
The products surro moms carry aren't related via blood to them btw, the embryo gets engineered in a lab and is implanted after it reaches a high enough cell count. Pretty much how it's already done today with artificial fertilization.
Surro moms get screened for immune reaction beforehand of course, but you can't failsafe for absolutely everything.
