I guess monoplanes don't make sense for four legged pilots. This is sort of 1912 when it comes to aeronautical technology. A DC-3 would blow their mind let alone an F-16.

These peoples' airplane designs haven't changed much in centuries, and they are quite primitive. This society relies a lot on magical technology to get things done, so they never got around to developing their physical technology very far.
