Yup, also, a friend of mine who is a military buff told me Mulan was a real girl and the real story paints her as a badass instead of a love interest. My Russian Orthodox friend got REALLY offended by the entire concept behind Anastasia. And in the hunchback of Notre Dame, Frollo kills Esmerelda, Quasimodo kills Frollo then steals Esmerelda's corpse and carries her off only to die of starvation two days later. And don't even get me started on Creulla DeVille.

Everything was all twisted in Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass, but everything nowadays with Alice has a plot and storyline. The granny didn't survive in Little Red Riding Hood. The dwarves chased down the witch and brutally murdered her in Snow White. Hansel and Gretal cooked the witch (i don't know if that was changed). Hercules killed his first wife and kids because he was a drunk. etc, etc........stupid Hollywood.

Weasel has a good point about the "kid-friendly" myths and fables. I remember getting ahold of a storybook filled with the original Grimm fairy tales. Boy, if I wasn't old enough to handle it that would probably emotionally scarred me for life. Just for fun, here's some of the things I remember from it. Cinderella-When trying on the glass slipper, one of the evil step-sisters actually cut off her heel to try and slip her foot into it. Yowch. Don't remember what story this one is from, but the evil step-mother, or someone to that effect, got the charming punishment of being stripped naked and placed in a barrel with hundreds of nails pointing inward and rolled through the merry streets. I'm sure there are even more gruesome things I've forgotten out there. It's quite interesting...and horrifying.
