MT Issue 35: Page 20

Update:
Ouch! Okay, a while back I requested a review from these guys. I dunno, maybe I thought they were the mediators or something. But, whoever they are, they tore me a new one.
They said the story was confusing and the plots were perverted (which I grant you, there is a little bit but its not like I have people parading around shirtless, and that the art was bad (Hilarious considering how these two guys draw themselves). Mob Ties was as they claimed the WORST comic they've reviewed.
I mean, seriously…OUCH! I do worry about this stuff, and the backgrounds are often lacking but I don't have a lot of time to work on them. This…I mean, I try to be thick skinned, but this one really hurt my ego.
I dunno, don't take my word for it. Here's the article.
http://www.drunkduck.com/The_Webcomic_Review_Comic_On_The_Web/index.php?p=721475
They're entitled to their opinion and I'm not going to get mad or ask you guys to flame them or something. It's just…I mean, you guys nominated me last year for best manga-style comic. I know MT is sort of a niche comic but…I never expected anything THIS bad.
I'm a wee bit depressed now.

That's right, the drunk duck awards are here again! I just happened to be checking on the status of MT when I noticed it.
Which means I'm asking for your support again this year! I would just love to win best manga-styled comic (I think they shorted it to Manga this year), but like I said, I would also love to see either Sid or Mika win best Protagonist, or Definitely Bengal as Best Antagonist. Serious, I think Bengals got a good shot at it, he's a read rotten bastard. So, vote for MT please!

The annoying Nominate Banner will be removed every day and then reposted on the newest page until the deadline on July 20th. Sorry for the shameless self promoting, but winning would be great advertising fodder and a major ego boost. I sure could use one after the month I've been having.

I think this one pretty much speaks for itself. But I think this sums up the entire reason behind Bengal's motivation.
So, I know these backstories can be long and tedious. Was it worth the wait?

Artie, don't sweat that so called review. Obviously this is one of the reviewers that finds as much fault as they can in anything. Your comic is fantastic, the plot is well thought out and your art has improved over the years (it wasn't bad before, but there is always room for improvement).
Naru_NineTailedFox at 8:44PM, July 11, 2010
The review sounds like crap. Didn't read it myself, don't care to. It may actually draw more attention to your comic and get you some more readers. Your art may not be flawless (the aurora borealis on this page could use some work), but it's some of the best I've seen that isn't in mass production as of yet. Keep doing what you're doing and Father Time will help you with the rest.
Kaeoz Crimson at 5:42PM, July 11, 2010
Well, here's the thing: there's a lot of difference between dead and in a coma: Sid is expected to recover any time, and Bengal is probably still trying to work out why Sid didn't die. I'd wager that Bengal's more concerned with the clan of Dragons, who he's currently at war with, than abducting Kyoko at this time. Plus, since Kyoko's existance was, until recently, a closely guarded secret, odds are Bengal doesn't even realize how special Kyoko is yet. Bengal's been around for a long time, so he's probably just being patient, trying to figure out the best way to permanently remove Sid from the picture first...

I would say don't be discouraged by a bad review, but don't ignore it. The worst possible thing you (and any comic artist out there) can do to yourself is NOT listen to any bad reviews. Someone thought of it for a reason, and EVERYONE can improve on art. It's a never-ending process. Also, if you have issues drawing backgrounds due to time issues, then I'd suggest updating less. Take your time and draw full backgrounds. It'll drastically help show what world these guys live in and make your story seem more real. And less filler. Don't update on Wednesdays if you can't update.

I find it hard to believe that people can't follow the plot, and the art is great. Every point they made was completely off in my mind.
chocann at 9:28AM, July 11, 2010
@RPGgrenade: if you want a worse style manga comic go check mine out its ten times worse than this. but with saying that AN has cleaned his artwork up alot since Pg one and there is a huge difference in my opinion.
RPGgrenade at 9:15AM, July 11, 2010
@Taltamir: meh, maybe i don't like her style in particular, cuz it really doesn't seem manga style to me. but the art has never been good, but never bad, it's so-so, and show me another manga style comic and say it's worse (with me being able to agree), then I'll retract my statement
taltamir at 9:09AM, July 11, 2010
@RPGgrenade: smaller eyes would be an artistic style change, not an automatic improvement. Maybe you just don't like manga style, but this doesn't mean manga style is bad. Besides which The art was never actually bad, not even on day 1. They made it out to be atrocious when it was actually good.
RPGgrenade at 9:00AM, July 11, 2010
I honestly haven't read this whole comic (there's a bit too much for me) But I do agree on a few aspects... Fanservice is regular amongst comics, so i can leave that alone for the most part, but i have to agree (sadly) on the art. It's not so much a manga style comic, it's more like an attempt at the older version of manga, and the art seems the same throughout all the pages, details may have been added, but i see little improvement to be honest, sorry. My opinion may be based on few things, but at least that's what i see. But hey, keep up the comic if it's so popular. Don't let a bad review get you down, and they judge you harshly on the art as objectively as possible, regardless of how horrible their own may be. Plus, they probably would've had a much better view of you if they hadn't had like 15 absolutely horrible comics before you... trust me, they were right about those comics, i read them myself beforehand (except yours, i didn't have time) and since they were in such a terrible mood probably couldn't appreciate whatever pros your comic could've had. The art could get alot better, though.. adding details, making eyes a little smaller... basically adding realism to the art makes it better, you just need to practice on it... That was a long rant. hope you don't mind me saying all this
jninjashadow at 7:58AM, July 11, 2010
I disagree with their assessment of your comic. I would say they put too much focus on Mika's age, and brought up some poor evidence. Don't let them get'cha down now.
Mr Kaos at 7:02AM, July 11, 2010
Did read the reviews. well i don't care what they say about Mob ties. I really like your comic. good teasing humor. art pretty good. remember that you can't please everyone. so cheer up pal! :)
Author_Ninja at 7:02AM, July 11, 2010
I wasn't actually sure if it was a real bad review or just a sort of Spoof at first. But as it progressed it got progressively more nasty. I'm better now, it was just kind of a shock to read it at first. I'm feeling better now, because...well, honestly, a bad review is the least of my problems today (Won't get into that). I'll just have to keep doing what I do and let the fans speak for themselves. Like they say, there's no such thing as bad publicity.
chocann at 6:24AM, July 11, 2010
Wow that review was a bit harsh!! but by looking at the position on the top ten MT is and how much support your currently getting should over shadow any stupid flaming review. Don't feel depressed AN you and your comic are very much loved =]
KRG1017 at 4:46AM, July 11, 2010
my god that was just I can't even think of the word, they would probably give Dominic Deegan a bad review sure your comic takes on something that most people don't but that's what makes it good.
taltamir at 3:24AM, July 11, 2010
you know, I went and read some more reviews from said "review comic"... every single one of them was extremely negative and insulting. It seems to just be a place for the authors to insult others to make themselves feel bigger.
taltamir at 2:20AM, July 11, 2010
ok. so I looked at the "review": 1. The "art" of the review looks like utter crap; your art is great. Just for the heck of I went back and reread page 1 through 3 of mob ties, and while the art wasn't as good as it is today, its was way better then the average comic on DD, and still good. The "review" comic would have been less ugly if it was stick figures. 2. Rather then make legitimate complaints, they set up a strawman argument, their entire review is repeatedly trying to drive home that mobties is a pedophile comic of nothing but fanservice of underaged girls, that is total BS. Their only other complaint, mentioned in passing, is about the comic's plot using "cheap explanations" for gimmicks... that is BS, the comic is simply set in a high magitech fantasy setting. 3. DD has entire sections of hardcore pornography comics... even if their (false) accusations were true, their claims to the defilement of the sanctity of drunkduck is hilarious.
Chelleromo at 2:16AM, July 11, 2010
Don't devote another second of your time to those assholes. I mean, you're getting ridiculed by the author of a FURRY webcomic for chrissakes. I'm pretty sure they have a prejudice against you for being popular AN, because they take no notice of your improvement in both art and story-telling. Also, as a side note: I love how they call your art "lazy" when it's pretty clear they favor "Ctrl + V".
saphydawg at 12:38AM, July 11, 2010
dude, dont sweat it bout the review, its not so much a review comic, as it is a frustrated outlet for a dude whos bitter because his badly drawn comic "harkovast" never made it to top10, boohoo. Dont let it get u down, your arts improved loads since the beginning, and you have a kickass storyline. also, he smells ;)
SkeLLerz at 11:33PM, July 10, 2010
omg i love this comic! is so..orgazumness
Lord Bing at 11:20PM, July 10, 2010
screw the reviewers this comic shows heart and has many morales in it. sure there are some obscene things in it but look at all movies, tv shows, ads, everything. it just how the world evoles so let them get used to it or keep there mouths shut. there's my opinion!
taltamir at 4:51PM, July 10, 2010
oh, and the other gods might find out if he tips his hand too early.
taltamir at 4:50PM, July 10, 2010
Heck...I'm surprised their not under total siege as Sis as much as told the other clans he was going to come after them. Perhaps the alliance with the Gray mice has helped?
Why would he attack them right now? he already attacked mika years ago and got what he wanted, now he just needs to wait until she grows up. If he transfers himself to the body of a baby he is going to be VERY vulnerable. I guess he could just kidnap her and keep her until she grows up, but that risks tipping is hand to early, as far as he knows they don't know what he is really after.
Indybot at 1:42AM, July 10, 2010
Oh, snap.
