Nobody can honestly think that any of this is really a secret - face it: how many places are there that genuinely couldn't boast at least one hideous ancient legend, mysterious ruin, Indian cemetery, Nazi treasure or alien base? In a city, all the trouble you go through to hush stuff up will likely end up highlighting it, while in remote hamlets you'll have to let everyone into the secret just to secure the logistics of the cover-up operations, leaving only a few villages in the green belt around Hanover, Germany, to protect for real (as there's hardly anywhere less supernatural or mysterious, let alone exciting, there's actually a chance of finding someone who still has no clue). None of it matters, though. Which self-respecting government would ever let a minor futility issue get in their way, after all? Plus, getting to wear neat, tailored suits and having an official warrant to blow stuff up more than compensate for any little credibility problems. I hear the pay isn't bad, either.

They're copy cats. Everyone knows the real Men in Black are Air Force Special Operations Command and Office of Naval Intelligence just messing with people's heads in disinformation research.
