For some reason, I don't think the mother is going to get out of this alive. Her inability to understand the scope of the situation just makes me think of her getting coldly killed by a son who doesn't care for her.
She's the kind of a person who seems would say something like "Please, he's a good boy, he's just...not thinking straight. I can help him. I'm his mother, I know him better than anyone else..."
It's the kind of thing that, gets you killed, but we'll see.
