Page 7 Wonder Woman

I find it interesting that at an age when I was still pretty naive about the physical differences between being male and female all my role models were female and what seemed to excite me most was the idea of women beating up bad guys!
Next week we meet Mr Warner!
Have a nice week!

"I don't want to be a man like dad" quite a potent line right there.

I love how you drew the house here! And these are all very nice details to see about Nick's childhood. I think the story is introducing all these fragments very successfully.

Normally I feel a bit stuck for what to put in the background but thinking back to my parents house reminded me of things that used to be in the room so it came out quite smoothly.

Dear Sky, When I was in the 6th or 7th grade, or so. My friends and I took on nick-names from the D.C. comic Justice league of America I was Wonder Women. Eartha! So many of us would dream of her as Bat Women! As seen on the campy Batman show on TV Great depiction of an all American living room! LOL! My father and I had a de facto monopoly on the TV as my little sister would be sleeping and mom was in the bedroom thanks tommym

Dear Tommym: I seem to have missed a comment by you! I must admit I would have been Catwoman too on my days off. I had a thing about Julie Newmar in that role too! XD

DV: Lovely to see you again! I did wonder what had happened to you as I did leave a link to this comic as I promised but this story is a bit different to SS so I don't like to drag SS readers here who may not be interested.

Oh, this does bring back memories. The 'family' room which was a defacto start and end point of any number of activities. We do remember watching TV (before cable) and how we had to negotiate for what shows we would watch. So often, depending on the size of the family, each evening we could have a very strange mix of choices, back when the networks would broadcast 'counter-programming' against each other. And there were indeed debates over the merits of a given program. Funny how we wish ourselves to align with those we admire and tried to shun those we didn't, when at that age, we couldn't really avoid such things/people/situations. Another beautiful page. Thank you.

UBH: Here in the UK at that time we only had 3 channels to choose from and only one had adverts but back then some ads were actually worth watching! And yea, we called it the 'living room' or 'dining room' but when I was born we even had a 'Front Room' which was only supposed to be for guests, although we did use it at Christmas. That was bizarre really as the rooms were small enough as they were!

The course has been set. When I think of all those around my daughter who claim to be "non-binary" and relate this to my own past - I have no idea where I would have landed and what this would have done to me.
skyangel at 3:33PM, Feb. 26, 2024
Othosmops: That's pretty much why I felt it was important to include these early memories because I find them thought provoking even on just a self contemplation level. My brother was two years older than me and not affected by the same influences that I was so I guess everyone goes their own way.

There are so many well observed period details to enjoy here, but starting with that expanse of carpet in the first panel is so effective. It took me right back to that age of doing everything on your tum and viewing the world from that perspective, which we do in the following panels! Super dialogue too and Catwoman was indeed cool. Did you prefer Julie or Eartha?
DarkVisor at 11:42PM, March 1, 2024
To me, Eartha had the voice, but Julie personified the Cat better overall: more slinky in her movements, if they could have just combined the two, Eartha's sultry voice in Julie's slinky body...

Ironscarf: I was surprised how the nostalgia crept in as I drew this page. I was drawing the background mostly from memory and the old style record player just came back to me as well as the old TV set style. Our carpet was patterned but I held back on that one! As for the CatWomen, I loved them both but I think Julie fitted the costume the best XD
