Page 49 A lot to think about

Nick has finally made some new friends at college but it's come at a time when he's also discovered why he feels so different to other guys. Now he has to decide how hes' going to deal with it!
Next week: Nick finds one of his classmates shows an unusual interest in him just as he's getting used to being alone!
Nothing to exciting going on in the background this week apart from the record shop - That's for you Stever! ;) I don't know why but apart from my Blondie phase in which I bought all their albums I only ever bought and listened to Soundtrack records. I don't hate singing by any means but I was hooked on how music and film could work so well together from a very early age and as most of the time I only listened to music whilst doing art I found words distracted my thoughts while music alone encouraged my daydreaming. I didn't go crazy in depicting record albums here as the panel is so small but once again I wanted to capture a moment in time when going to the record store felt really exciting and special!
Have a nice week!

Dear Tommym, Yea it did feel like a very special time for so many reasons! I need to find tank Girl online and start reading it as it's one of several comics I've always been aware of but never read!

Heh heh, Cheers! Love it! 😎 Graphic Design was the field I ended up going into after college. When I did a semester in Scotland (right before I met cork) I found an album of Tank Girl and I was hooked. I bought it along with my school books and hoped my folks wouldn't be examining the receipts too carefully. 🤣

Haha It's cool to think you were hiding Tank Girl of all things. I how many other guys felt awkward about reading comics with female heroines in!

The last panel of today's page shows very impressively how uncomfortable Nick feels in his skin or rather his outfit.

I'm glad that came across. I try to show how the desired female life he can't attain seems so much more colourful to him too. I meant to put colourful patterned tights on the model too before I let the page go but then forgot!

As always, lovely page thank you! Also we get a look at the time frame, I think I see a Star Wars, model or game under the bed? It must have been so nice to find someone describing in themselves sensations and feelings you were having, telling you that you're not the only one! The record store was interesting, but the selection of covers you did do is... Telling? King and I, Fistful of Dollars, Sound of Music, Goldfinger, Bilitis, Alien, The Graduate, Full Metal Jacket? Pulp Fiction? Clockwork Orange? Quite an interesting collection of films, my question is are they all from your personal collection, and have you seen them all or just listened to the soundtracks? And of course, I can't wait for next weeks page! LOL! Thank you SkyAngel.

You have been busy! I was a little stuck for ideas on that first panel but then I recalled making a model Tie Fighter which is still in production now so that felt like a nice one to slip in. And yes, that book honestly felt so precious at the time because Tula was the only person I knew who felt like I did and was already years ahead of me. The records are all from my personal collection although I only bought the King and I for it's cover as it was cheap! I do not own the sound of music but I put it on the far left as it constantly popped up in just about every 2nd hand record box I ever went through! Like art though I loved how different sounds created unique moods as well as the tunes written for them. To this day I still keep adding new tracks to my playlists but as MP3's instead of LPs. And yes again, I have often listened to a soundtrack before seeing the film and Bourne Identity which I currently love to listen to whilst driving is one such track.

Used records! As an impoverished student, that would have been my feeding ground. Court of the Crimson King, Dark Side of the Moon, I feel that I should recognize more of the covers. Anyway it's good to see that Nick is starting to find a niche to fit into, just as I did eventually in college. And who are those girls over there in the next row?
skyangel at 1:33AM, Jan. 13, 2025
Well done you! I put some of my personal faves at the front but I wasn't sure how clear the distant ones would come out so I tried to chose a handful that might just be recognisable from the art alone. :)
