Oh geez that sucks D:
But I know what it's like. I've killed my pc about 5 times before finally deciding on getting an external. I hope you manage to retrieve everything.

go to best buy or new egg and get a usb mass storage device! dont let this happen again. its soul crushing!
happened to me about 5 years ago!
tip- back everything up on a hard drive then completely wipe your computer every 6 months. this will help your machine run so much better.
@Yukiei
I know! right!?
@RedSlayer
Thanks and yes that is the plan of action. I didn't even think of compatibility issues... it's a gateway (OLD)*crosses fingers
a memory virus indeed, I was in the middle of cleaning my computer and it shut down, when I turned it back on... ZERO ACCESS! ..it's like it knew!! D 8<
At the time I didn't even have a place to put my files (exHD or Discs) so even while it was working I couldn't save them. HARG!
@everyone
There should be a national awareness day that reminds everyone to take the time out of their day to back things up. It's becoming all too common to have an annual reformatting. mehr antivirus this, spyware that, don't download anything, pop up blocker...STILL 'back your work up.' You never know when your computer is just going to spontaneously combust.
Try this:
1) Find someone with a HDD case to use HDD's external.
2) Take out your HD (person with case should be able to help).
3) Back up all your stuff to another HDD.
3b) You might have a virus, so make sure to do this in a pc with good protection.
4)Format hard drive and re install.
NOTE: Make sure that your HDD is compatible with the external HDD case you plan to use.
I have done this several times, it should work.
