Well it's official. The new Green Day album sucks royally, and I'm very very disappointed in Butch Vig for having been a part of it. I think this is the first album he's produced that I haven't liked. It just sounds like a rehash of American Idiot, which itself, felt like a Tommy rip off with I hate George Bush/ America undertones. Granted, their is nothing wrong with hating on ol' G Dabya, but you can only beat a dead horse so much before even the most liberal of us lose interest.
Boy do I miss the days when Green Day was still a relatively punk band. Dookie is still on of my favorite albums of all time.
I'm sure Butch was blowing massive chuncks during the recording of that song in particular. I hope he spends the rest of the year in a corner, flogging him self for his recent sins against humanity.
As for me being a poser for liking Green Day's old stuff, I know that makes me about 65% less punk for admitting it, but their older work is just so damned catchy. I can't help myself. No one seemed to mind that I was a Green Day fan back in HighSchool. Back then the band everyone really hated was Blink-182, whom I still hate to this day with a passion.
Aw, I hate to say it... we made fun of Dookie, when it came out. The worst thing anyone could call you was a "Greenday Punk". ;) Although "Longview" is a fanfuckentastic song, I'll give 'em that.
yeah, the new green day is very "let's do another american idiot". i still love dookie, and i still love insomniac too, for that matter... god, i was in the sixth grade when insomniac came out..
i didn't know butch vig produced 21st century though. i wonder if he was throwing up while they were recording that god awful, desperate-to-sound-epic 21 gun song (whatever it's called).. i know i would have.

Butch Vig still rocks! He's earned the right to a stinker or two! Cheers!
