My formative adult years were in philadelphia. I moved their in 2014 and stayed until 2020. When I began making Nose Bleed, I wanted to give back to the city that gave me so much. UHHHHH yeah, I mean all cool guy writing aside, if you spend a lot of time in a place its very hard for it not to seep into what you make. Philly is cool, its a hard place to live but it is… a place. I love it and hate it at the same time.
The BOK building is a bit of touchy subject for those in philly. it represents change. It use to be a vocational school but was eventually shutdown do to low funding. it was bought and turned into a high functioning art space filled with galleries, boutiques, bars etc. its very cool and has one of the best views of philly. you can up to the top of the building and drink. it is hands down amazing in my book but alot of people see it the turn of things getting worse. gentrification. i gotta be honest i think gentrification can be a good thing. i mean that building was literally sitting vacant. yes it wouldve been awesome to keep a vocational school open but something is better than nothing. like i said its a very touchy subject. either way I love BOK and had to throw it into my story.
