I hate it so much. Whenever I use the whole ‘train up your starter and screw the rest of your team’ that Miltank annihilates my friggin team with rollout.

I don't mind hard gyms, but not when there's no strategy to beat them. Like with Brock in first gen: if you chose Charmander (or are playing Yellow), you're faced with a type disadvantage. But if you catch a Mankey before going through Viridian Forest, and train it up in the way to Pewter, you'll do fine.
But that Miltank of Whitney's... there's neither a Pokemon with an advantage available to you nor enough trainer battles to level up your other Pokemon to make the fight anywhere near easy.
I usually end up leveling one Pokemon as much as I can, then use the others as meat shields when I need to heal it. Even then, it's not a sure thing and when I finally do win, I'm left with an unbalanced team.
