Ch2 Pg43 (Part 4: The Treasure Hunters)
Cheeko on July 27, 2006
Holy cow; I actually updated after that massive post last week! Be amazed, everyone.
This page was drawn a LOOOOOOOOOONG time ago, back with all the original pages of Chapter 2. I didn't feel like redrawing the same scene with the same idea, so I simply pulled out the old inks and colored it.
You know what I noticed? Back when I first started this project I put a TON of details into my pages. Like the rope, the candle, the chair, the uniforms, the door, the sign, the far off skyline, etc. I'm kind of mad at myself for letting all of that slide because in the end the page looks more impressive. So I'll try doing that from now on, but in the process I may sacrifice the whole “inking on the computer” thing I've got going and switch back to coloring pencil sketches.
Gaaaaah, coloring this page took FOREVER. There were so many different things that required different shades of blue and it was hard to keep them straight. Many thanks again to SlyEagles tutorial on coloring (http://jaadrih.comicgenesis.com/gallery/tutorial.html; those Saturation and alternate lighting bits REALLY helped while I was working on this page.
On another note, I really need feedback on this bit: is the narration even relevant on this page? I was at odds and ends looking at it and I really don't think it belongs there, but what do you think? Please help me out; I'm stressing out about this way more than I should.
There's another cameo on this paaaaage… XD
Fyrsiel, I took your advice and was more careful with my blurring tool. Does it look okay now? I'm really glad you pointed that out, because now I find myself keeping that in mind whenever I draw something. Feedback rocks! Thanks.
Okay, looks like I'm set for another week, and the next page is SOOO easy to color.
I've still got to get the Couple's Mask in Majora's Mask, so I think I'll go do that. It's a doozy. Skullkid, you're going DOWN!
Cheeko out.

I like the naration... At the very beginning, with the dragon and the ancient looking drawings, there was naration. So it still fits here, yes? I do like it. It's kind of like poking the reader in a way. That grabs the reader's attention and it also helps to move things along... You know, sometimes I assume it could even be that dragon narating this whole thing. xD That's the cool thing about naration... it could be from anybody, if you don't know who is narating just yet... Aye, I looooove that last panel! XD Woooo! There's such a mood and all that color! Aye, so far, I've found that perspective type of blurring is simple. Either you blur things in that are close to the camera or blur things that are far away from the camera. It just doesn't work if you blur things that are both far and close to the camera, is all. xO This time, the last panel looks fine, though. Blur can have a REALLY good effect with perspectives... Another neat trick to keep in mind is that sometimes, when places are far away, you can tint them in a single kind of color... Sort of what Da Vinci did in some of his paintings... I think it was Da Vinci that did that stuff... It's amazing how simple tricks like that can be so effective. xD

*waddles in* I didn't want to spam your front page so I came back to the one that attracted me to your comic X3 Anywho! I love this, I love it I love it I love it! So beautiful. This single page brought me here and now i'm hooked after reading the beginning! You're a very talented writer, and just to throw this out there, if you ever need someone to color for you......*waves hand around frantically* Also, i'd like to thank you, cause if I never found this place, I wouldn't have gotten the urge to start my own :3 so, thank you :D

I'm back to comment. And to think I was moanin' and groanin' about all those pages at once when I take about a week away from DrunkDuck and have to do it like that anyways... ANYWAYS, I think the narrating fits quite well. ;) There's two people that catch my attention. Both in the second panel. One's the redhead (I believe that's the proper hair color) in the background and the other's the white haired character in the foreground... The white haired character looks like Auron... but the redhaired character doesn't remind me of anybody... Maybe Brooke from Culture Shock. Anyways, I've spent enough time deliberating. :P

Oh, and personally, I love the narration! Makes me tingly. :3

Great page :P and yay for details :) Concerning narration: I am undecided - but in my eyes it is not necessary mjkj
Wazaga at 1:04PM, July 28, 2006
whoa, hold onnn! are my eyes playing tricks on me? or does it say "wazy" on that comic book with a little Wazaga squished in there??? no, no, I have got to be mistaken. maybe I should get my eye meds...
IronWolf at 11:35AM, July 28, 2006
Wull, I'm known for loving the narration, so I like it.
JillyFoo at 10:33AM, July 28, 2006
I don't know. the narration is real small. take or leave don't care either way.
rmccool at 8:31AM, July 28, 2006
looks great..

Your pretty hardworking to come up with apage this soon. ^_^ Grattitude! ^_^
Wazaga at 6:50AM, July 28, 2006
GASP! I.... wow, I can can't speak of this page... it's so... realistic? it's got to be the comic reading guy in the front there. but I have no idea who it might be.
spaz at 6:47AM, July 28, 2006
I like the guy reading the comic book.

I play the entire game over and over again for that mask. It's totally worth it. This page probably killed you to color it-- am I right? Because it looks fatally awesome. (I'm so jealous!) The narration-- This much is enough. It reminded me that we have the eerie narrator thing going on (which I forgot) and helps key in that there is something more going on here than street urchins playing thieves.
Sly Eagle at 12:52AM, July 28, 2006
You're quite right. The page is far more impressive with more detail. I demand more detail! Yar! I think I'm allowed to do that, of all people. XD I'm so glad that tutorial is working out for you. As for the cameo... That looks like Auron in the bottom left there. Or maybe i's the kitty girl in the mag he's reading?
Sir Talen at 12:36AM, July 28, 2006
I'd judge the narration to be unecessary (I missed it the first time through too.) And the cameo has to be the elf up front (since I doubt OQ's world normally has comic books... :) )

The page itself: Incredible page, Cheeko! There are all sorts of details and it looks fairly painstaking. It's not easy to draw such a big crowd and I was easily impressed when I saw it. Details: One thing you realize when your start to do a periodically updating comic is that you have to sometimes let details slide in order to get a new page up in a timely manner. Don't feel too bad about simplicity. I'd love to put more details into my characters but I realize that keeping a good update schedule is more important. I guess your best bet is to find a balance for yourself, Cheeko. Narration: I actually missed the narration the first time I read the page. It didn't throw me off at all. Going back the second time and having read it, I don't think it hurt anything... though it does make the reader feel like they're being told a story rather than being a bystander to the events. So it probably depends on what you're going for. Cameo: It's either the elf person in back or this comic-reading guy up front. Or the comic itself? I'm clueless. Cameos are fun, though! Majora's Mask: Getting the couples' mask is fun! Trust me, getting every mask in the game is awesome because you get quite a reward near the end of the game. Plus, do it for Anju and Kafei!
