Ch3 Pg7
Cheeko on Feb. 1, 2007
Due to the small amount of confusion that last week's update created, I think I need to make a matter perfectly clear here:
A lot of you noticed I used the word “Demn” instead of “Damn.” This actually is not the first time I have used this term.
The reason for this is actually quite simple.
I DO NOT SWEAR.
I do not even use the word “cr@p” or “p*$$” (my religion does not encourage it). Therefore, I have created MY OWN SWEAR WORDS to use in the comic in place of real ones.
Here is a list of ones I have used so far, and what they take the place of:
Demn (Condemn)= Damn (Damnation)
Tripe = Poop, or any word of the same meaning
Spit = $|-|*%
Son of a Beast = The Obvious
Cripes
More will be added to this list as I think of them, but it's a way for my characters to be able to express one's anger without being explicit. There you go; that's my shpheal for the day.
Hooo.
Alright, this is the last page of this sequence. What's going on? Hopefully that will become very obvious by next week's update, which I am quite proud of. I am quite proud of that candle, too. I actually posted a picture of it on my dA site.
Eh, not much to report again, so I guess I will end this post. I'm sure I'm forgetting to announce something important which I will beat myself up over. >_

I like your replacement swearwords. Even aside from compunctions about swearing, I find them more setting appropriate than all of our modern... lingual dalliances.

Gotta love that candle.

Frak! Gorramit, we're humped! Also a staple of sci-fi dialogue, though you probably already know that. I just like saying them. Although I don't have the same compunctions about swearing as you do, I try to keep myself from using real swear words unless I have a *very* good reason to. Instead, I usually use my favorite Sci-fi expletives. "Frak" is from Battlestar Galactica. "Gorram" & "Humped" are from Firefly.

Huh... Actually, "demn" and "demm" were popular replacements for "damn" in British literature at some point...Victorian era, maybe?

Is Kavin her son? I'm getting a suspicion.

Now I have another comic to impatiently wait for updates on. Yipee for me. I really should have gotten around to reading this comic of yours a while ago Cheeko.

The candle is simply lovely. ^__^ I can imagine it must have taken many creative hours to CG. Good stuff, there! Woo swear words. Depending on the situation, they can actually be really effective. *darts eyes* But only if used wisely. I like "Spit" though, because that can really be expressive without being offensive. *nods* Yus, that's really effective. I've actually heard that "Son of a gun," is slang for "B4astard" though, since it meant a child having been conceived by a man in war-times and one of the girls that would visit them to keep them company every now and then. Then of course there's "Rock and Roll" which is slang for love-making. @__@ We use offensive phrases everyday and never even know it! Dirtbag is another offensive phrase that no one realizes anymore, too. Oh the stuff you get to learn at college. _xD

mask mask mask... what is your evil plan?
Annhialator at 5:44PM, Feb. 2, 2007
you remind me of a very close friend of mine. He carried an oath not to swear and he's quite stubborn about it (because we tried to trick him to say them just for tease :)) but hey it leaves room for implicit expressions which are ten times better than the explicit ones (my opinion any ways)
earthwielder at 2:41PM, Feb. 2, 2007
I admire that you don't use swear words. It's quite refreshing. ^_^

kavonn at 11:07PM, Feb. 1, 2007
So much more fun - and confusing to people - when you make your own up. Better, too - not having to resort to crude epithets.
bluebug at 10:41PM, Feb. 1, 2007
Thanks for clearing the "demn" issue. That candle is certainly lovely.
Jassination at 10:10PM, Feb. 1, 2007
Hee, yeah, I remember you using those terms before. :D I like to use blowberries. ^_^ So, Mask can't handle this on his own, eh? Not sure why, but, I suppose I'll find out later, eh? :]
