My tablet isn't working.
As a reminder to a lot of you, I have and use a tablet PC. It's a laptop computer whose screen flips around and folds down, allowing me to draw directly onto it. It's a great piece of technology, especially because I could never really get used to WACOM tablets. I like watching my hand as it works instead of having it outside of my vision and guessing what to do with it.
However, for the past few weeks, the pressure sensitivity has gone completely caput for some reason. This means I can't do the cool special effects in Photoshop I need for comic pages. Ever time I open the program, and error window pops up asking me to reinstall the tablet software. The other day, I went online and I did reinstall the tablet software, but now all that happens is TWO error windows pop up instead of one.
Thursday I took the thing to Best Buy and asked the Geek Squad what was wrong, and though they didn't have much experience with tablet PCs, they had a few good guesses.
So, I'm going to try a few of those guesses and see if they don't work. Otherwise, I'm pretty screwed in the way of art, which is bad. That means I'll have to call up Toshiba Customer Service (which is actually quite excellent) and see what the heck is going on.
Needless to say, I'm pretty bummed about this. What the heck am I going to do if I don't get it working again? I paid so much for this thing because I do a lot of art on my computer. If the pressure sensitivity doesn't work I can't even use it, rendering my very expensive piece of technology quite useless for anything except typing papers and surfing the internet.
*sigh*
So that's why this week's update is an absolute failure. I sent a PS file to Wazaga in an email begging for help, so if she finds it in her heart to help me, you guys will get a cooler page.
But that's all I can really type right now. I'm really frustrated and upset about this.
Oh, and Kira–thanks so much for all the information and being so patient with me. I'm sorry I haven't replied to your message any sooner. Give me another day or so.
A final note: My birthday is on the 16th! I'll be turning 19. :)
Cheeko out.
EDIT:
Wazaga's beautiful colors are up. Originally I was going to add some black, opaque misty things to define the panels a bit more, but I don't think it really needs it.
Go give Wazzy some luv, y'all! She deserves it for being so awesome and reliable. :)

Aha! The son. OK. So, I have a "Bamboo" tablet. It works good for me, but drawing on the screen! *drools in appreciation!* I never was good drawing with mice, and I still have a little trouble with the control on my tablet but my paper drawings, in my opinion, are the best I've done.

That's really sad. Ever since she had to leave him she's been keeping count. Dang... only if Ranu knew.

I've just been reading through the archives for the umpteenth time and was thinking on something. It took me a while, actually several different times of reading and thought to realise that this was a flashback. As a sort of critique, this is kind of confusing, and if you are planning to do this in the future (which is an assumption since we're going to have to return to Narini and Orson, right?) you may want to find a way to make this clearer. The easiest way is a change in narration but I gather you do not want to do that, and it would be awkward at best so I agree. I'll think on it and see what sort of suggestions I can come up with that would make the flow easy and alleviate the confusion problem. I sort of have a feeling that the jumbled-ness of the two storylines might pose a problem in the future...especially since it might have readers wondering if Ranu's two or twelve or if Narini and Orson have been in jail for ten years or not. But still, I'm loving the story you do have a flair for storytelling and that's the most important part. =)

So THAT is why they look so much alike! well, Ranu was wrong then.
BreathOfDreams at 6:51PM, May 21, 2007
*gasp* Yeah, that was totally my first reaction, the second being 'awww... she did love him' Kinda bittersweet in my opinion, but I like it ^^

BTW, you spelled "its" wrong. Possessive pronouns don't have apostrophes. But it's prett.

You draw lips rather well, not sure if I've pointed that out before though.

Ah, nice shading Wazzy. I llike the very subtle design on Narini's shawl in the last panel.

I'll have to try and remember... 6 days until your birthday... got to remember... Yes... Meh, I'm probably going to forget. I'd forget my head if it wasn't attached to my shoulders. So now, I also end up forgetting my shoulders... Two years, three months, and twenty-eight days old... Wait... wasn't he assumed to be more around 8 or 10 years old or... something? o.o I'd look back through the old chapters and pages, but that'd take ages... So, I'll just remain Captain Oblivious. Regardless, his assumed age must be older than his actual age. Anyways, I hope your tablet gets working again. ^_^ Geek Squad, ASSEMBLE!!! Or, maybe the Toshiba Customer Service will do...

I mark your birthday on Calendar >> I'll try and make ya something nice! >> once I get over this darn cold... so... Ranu's mom eh? interesting to say the least!
xanos at 1:58PM, March 9, 2007
birthday eh???? mueheheh! perhaps we could get together and buy you a new tablet! (if we really do like your comics) ... (which I do!) I'll try and find out how much money I can put up...
Crazy at 11:57AM, March 9, 2007
your birthday 16th mar?
ce33 at 10:19AM, March 9, 2007
Sorry about the expensive equipment. Good Luck.
Fyrsiel at 10:15AM, March 9, 2007
I knew she had to be his mom. xxxDDD ;;; But then, I was afraid that would be too obvious so I was never entirely sure... Dx Maybe you can stick with old fashioned inked and scanned lineart? It may look a little off for a while, but you'll still be drawing... Ner, good luck. I personally think that a light sensitive mouse is the cheapest tablet you can buy. @__@ But many people do not agree...
Freux at 9:02AM, March 9, 2007
Man, it sucks when art equipment goes out. When my first wacom tablet finally died, I threw it around the room for about twenty minutes, screaming at it.. then cried. XD Hopefully you'll be able to fix your lovely! And great page! It's not a failure.
Kira Dwenna at 8:48AM, March 9, 2007
And just when you get to the point where you can go "AHA! I KNEW she was his mum!" there's a DEFINITE plot twist. (and THAT gets the 5) Wowza. Reminds me a little of Kes from Star Trek Voyager. Except, she was two, and fully grown. Cheeko - Not a problem. I've been a little busy with things this week myself. O.o I did manage to verify that hotel rates are still the same for this year, though. ~-^ Oh, and... Happy Early Birthday! Eat lots of cake and think happy thoughts!
PaparazziPulse at 7:41AM, March 9, 2007
Sorry to hear about your tablet. I rely on a tablet for most of my art, too, so I know it must be really frustrating when it konks out on you. A good page, here. Likin' the sudden plot twist.
RhianConway at 6:36AM, March 9, 2007
This page rocks with or without special effects! And I was thinking more along the lines of sister or something...wow. Meanwhile it's a bummer but you will get through!
jiminycricketX at 6:19AM, March 9, 2007
Aw, broken tablet, that must stink. I don't personally have a tablet, but if I did I'm sure I'd be pretty ticked if it broke. Anyway... Ranu is only 2? I guess whatever race he is ages fast and then stops aging completely in thier prime.
barbwired at 5:37AM, March 9, 2007
i also have a tablet (rotating screen type) and my mouse sensitivity has NEVER worked. its really disappointing. i dont know if its the option not working or whether its the screen. still good luck with that
