tricky? nah. Just make the outline on a black background, select the inside, go to the next layer and make the selection gray. Put it under the white outlines then finish the white. Finally, remove the black (if desired) turn the gray 50% transparent and you're done

The way I've been doing it is white fill layer at 30%, black fill layer under that at 70%. Makes it so that she'll work on both light and dark backgrounds and still read as transparent. It's the white outline that I'm finding tricky to work with. All my other characters work best on lighter backgrounds because of their black outline but now I have a character who requires at least some color in order for her outline to read, and the darker the better. I realized as I started to draw her that I've never dealt with a white outline character before. It's not bad, just really different.
