Long before the game actually came out, I knew I would do a comic where I had Teddie address that his voice was different, but without proper context, I wasn't sure how I was going to do it. The original joke was he was going to be in the TV world when its all peaceful, having a picnic with himself (literally, I was going to have him in his Alice costume sitting on the blanket talking to his empty bear suit) and when he opened his mouth a blue butterfly was going to fly down his throat before he could say anything.
While I did like the joke, it doesn't work with the context of the game itself, so this is basically Plan B.

Of course, that just raises the question as to why he's so concerned about how he'll explain his vocal change. He should be aware that the others can't "hear" him anyway, so there'd be nothing to explain. So your logic is flawed, Q.E.D.

Chie doesn't notice her voice is different because she lives in a comic with no voice acting in it. Teddie is the only one with the awareness of the comic and the games (the latter thanks to his Shadow)
