This week’s writer’s challenge is Pinky TA. Go to the forums and write a short fanfic on Pinky TA. the entries are pretty good, check them out! ^_^
Page description:
Pinky backs up and lobs a single rocket. The barricade disappears in a flaming cloud of black, choking smoke, flame, and splinters. Pinky manoeuvres the S.S.V.5 through the smoke, hoping to see an end to the resistance and an easier, less painful path to the destruction of this facility…
-Only to find that she’s been duped. The troops were fighting so hard to protect civilians, women, children, wounded, elderly… People who had presumably been gathered to shelter from the tribal attack they had been warned of: This doesn’t seem much like a vital military facility at all. All Pinky’s recent killing seems a lot worse to her now. The destruction she caused with the removal of the barricade has added to that considerably.
Commentary:
This is my favourite page of Pinky TA. It’s the ultimate one really. It marks the end of Pinky’s adventures for this stage while things move on to Cc. Wander Jive played brilliantly with the scrolling conventions of the web and this was my humble attempt at something similar. Like the title says: Scroll right, down, left. The story is sort of animated that way.
The full view of the battle damaged S.S.V.5 turned out ok, it’s standing a bit high and the lower legs look a bit long, but you’re looking up at it, so it sort of works out.
This page went up around the time of hurricane Katrina in the US and that terrible earthquake in Pakistan and Kashmir, so the experience of the refugee and human tragedy was very easy to tap into. The idea had been planned for quite a while, but the art was done then and it was interesting to paint a response to the feelings floating around (I never saw any TV news images or photographs of those events then. I get my news from the radio).
Writer's challenge!

Oh look its ED-209, only cooler! LOL! Great stuff and the story line is really coming together. Her internal dialogue adds a lot to what is going on too!

Well I mean, the cover you did for me, which we are very slowly inching towards hopefully by the end of 2006 (ugh and my lack of skillz of drawing fast) is awesome as well. :-D

Whew, that's a huge comment, thanks for that Nick ^^ Yeah, Mister meh was a genius. I wish WanderJive would come back. Thanx guys ^_^ I'm glad you like this page as much as me! Ah, I don't know if ther'll be any closure for a while yet.

While I like the layout of the page, I don't mind scrolling down, but scrolling across, then down, was a bit confusing for a few seconds, I thought the browser was acting screwey enlarging the page. In the end though, it did work out the way you wanted to. Cos, I mean, overall, this is simply the best page I've seen you do in terms of everything. You always have amazing art, but I mean, it has emotional depths behind the art, or as a reader, i feel it has emotion behind it more so than anything i've seen you do before. Simply bossanova man. I can't wait for more! ROCK. ON.
Neilsama at 8:08AM, Feb. 11, 2006
That would just completely suck.
coinilius at 6:01AM, Feb. 11, 2006
The art on this page looks very good - and a great end to this particular part of the story, as well.

Oh man, my concience would never let me forget that
CrazySOB at 9:26PM, Feb. 10, 2006
Man I love this page, the BOOM, perspective, and detailness. The fact that I need to scroll across the page, (I actually think that works well with this page.) How you worked the panels, as in making panel 2 black splitting up panel 1 and 3, etc. - I just wanted to say that I really really like this page.
Coydog at 9:22PM, Feb. 10, 2006
BIG uh-oh!
