Trouble at Tunis

News
The Pinky TA fan-fics that were done as part of the writer’s challenge were brilliant! Read them ^_^
Page description:
There’s trouble at the capital concerning the attack at Matmata. The French Administration at Tunis are worried, the quality of their intelligence seems as bad as Pinky's!
-Or is it? You can never tell what people really know with military intelligence these days… Hur hur hur! Either way, the native populace are having a hard time of it and rumours abound among the ranks.
Commentary:
Wheee! Like the last two pages, this has never been on Drunk Duck before. I did a lot of research to get elements in this page right… I found a handful of rare pics of what the governor’s place looked like in the 20’s in Tunis and what the presidential palace looks like now. But the building here is only loosely based on the real thing because the photos were so poor and limited and imagination is way more fun anyway. I’m sure if I spoke French or Arabic I’d be able to find a LOT more useful references… The real building had some arches, that vague shape, that middle awning, all those exact lions on the front steps, smaller flags, and that’s about all. The only other thing I know is that the real building has an open inner courtyard, it’s not all enclosed like this building (through the front doors you can see another set of doors and then the courtyard on the real one).
Those horses look wrong; they have funny heads and necks. I drew them in a hurry…
Writer's challenge!
Do the writer’s challenge It’s a fun way to practise your writing ^_^
(Next challenge is on Wednesday the 15th)
A note:
Go to my main site for the latest work (10th February, 2006). I’m uploading one page a day with commentary and explanations here.

Man, panel no. 3 is ubertastic! Words cannot describe the perfect art!
Amelius at 8:34PM, Feb. 22, 2006
wowza, I only WISH I could draw interiors like that! That's absolutely beautiful!
Green_Tangerine at 6:40PM, Feb. 18, 2006
God... So beautiful.
Ozoneocean at 2:50PM, Feb. 16, 2006
You know a helluva lot about horses Maz ^^ I'm jelous of that. Thanx Bobo. ot was a nightware to draw. haha. Thanx strongbad, Ruka, css1989, joff, sub. I really liked that panel best too. Thanx Ham. I know I've still got room to improve though, like everyone else. ^_^
bobo_81 at 12:18PM, Feb. 16, 2006
The interior of the palace is awesome
Mazoo at 7:39PM, Feb. 15, 2006
Haha, actually the horse's snouts are just fine. American Creme Drafts can look a bit like that, or Ardennes. (And if they were American Creme Drafts, you could say they were the right size, since those horses are really small!) You know I'm only bugging you about the small things because I'm jealous, Ozone. :P
strongbad_999 at 5:41PM, Feb. 15, 2006
Once again...abso-bloody-lutely amazing!
Ruka E Pocky at 4:01PM, Feb. 15, 2006
The design of that palace is so badass.
ccs1989 at 2:37PM, Feb. 15, 2006
Christ this is some awesome lighting.
Hamorhage at 1:13PM, Feb. 15, 2006
Ye I could go on about the horses necks which are too long, but fuck..I couldnt even do them myself if I;'d spend 100 years doing them so. BIg up on this page. Its AMAZINg. the architecture is brilliant, I love the gold in there and the light on the characters in panel 3! it's soo wow, oww..almost forgot to read the actua story again :)
subcultured at 12:41PM, Feb. 15, 2006
that 2nd panel is just...WoW!
Ozoneocean at 10:03AM, Feb. 15, 2006
Ahhhhhh nooooooooooooo Comment response time! Ack, so many, you spoil me ^_^ Thanx Hero. Those details are my strength and my weakness. Hehe, thanx Chewdy. I try and better myself with each page. It doesnât always work⦠But on some it works very well! Ah Mazooooooooooooo! You cut me to the quick. Ya, the probs you mention are true. The guards in the bottom panel are a bit higher up than they should be. Ah, those horses were just such a rush job ^^ Ha! Yes Chris, Todayâs political atmosphere influences Pinky TA a LOT. Not always directly, because itâs a different story, but itâs definitely there quite strongly. Thanks Kytenji. For the palace I just did a rough thumbnail sketch, scanned it and then used a straight line tool to do all the straight lines! The arches are just rough sketches that have been honed until theyâre clean, same with the rest. Hahaha, Magic, thatâs quite a clever compliment ^^ AHHHHHHHHHHHhh, you bugger Iago! Yes, you have me. Iâm ALWAYS messing up off and OF. ALWAYS in every instance I use it. Truthfully, I canât write for crap ^^ Thanx for the compliment about the research, I get obsessive about that aspect. Thanx Coy, Glimmer Sarah. I have this idea that backgrounds are exactly as important as the figures in an image. It means more work, but it pays ^^ Yeah, theyâre not nice, but itâs how people tend to behave when theyâre under pressure in a lot of instances. Hey, Emotional! Fresh and new? Thatâs a lovely compliment ^_^ Awww Coinilius, horses arenât that bad ^^ Theyâre just big, dangerous puppy dogs really. I can usually draw them a bit better, but I need to keep up the practise to manage it. Thanx Crazy. Ah, itâs nothing but practise and time. Anyone can do it ^^ Thanx Flaak, Kam, Spaz ^^
Hero at 9:17AM, Feb. 15, 2006
Dizayam! The intricacy with which you do your backgrounds is astounding! Not to mention the medals and the military man in the foreground.
chewdy at 7:49AM, Feb. 15, 2006
Your backgrounds and lighting just get crazier and crazier. These pages that came after the last DD crash are insanely gorgeous!
Mazoo at 5:32AM, Feb. 15, 2006
Man, you're detail is so amazing. Hm, maybe the curve of the neck on the horses is just a smidge too... curvy. And their snouts don't necessarily come to such a "point." unless, of couse, they are that breed. (but those horses are usually HUGE. I mean, like, monstrous). But that's being nit-picky. Are those soldiers next to the brown horse closer to us, since that horse would be reeeeeally small otherwise. Heh, alright, aside all my moaning about your great page, it looks fine, really. The detail calls for a 5.
chrisj at 4:24AM, Feb. 15, 2006
Loads of atmosphere, and relevant to today's politics, as well.
Kytenji at 12:12AM, Feb. 15, 2006
oooo palacey ^^ great job. Did you use anything special for the outer palace architecture? looks very precise, practiced, like youve been drawing palaces like that your whole life lol.
magicalmisfits at 11:38PM, Feb. 14, 2006
I wish I wrote better so I can express better how amazing your work is!.
iagojester at 10:44PM, Feb. 14, 2006
Gorgeous interiors. Having taken one too many art history classes, I relish your accuracy. But, what's this? Do I sense a typo on the all-too-perfect Pinky page? Perhaps I don't speak English well enough, or my eyes are wrong but I see, "Crimean raiders are cutting 'of' our supply..." Should it be 'off'? Curious/
Coydog at 10:27PM, Feb. 14, 2006
Not being very nice, are they? Exquisite backgrounds...
glimmer at 10:20PM, Feb. 14, 2006
awesome backgrounds incredible
SarahN at 9:52PM, Feb. 14, 2006
Good...GOD those backgrounds! =O I can't get over it.
Emotional at 9:22PM, Feb. 14, 2006
I love the amount of detail you put into the buildings. I never seen designs like that in a comic. Its somthing fresh and new ^^
coinilius at 9:12PM, Feb. 14, 2006
Horses are hard things to draw, at least I've always found that to be the case - of course, I also have a (possibly irrational) distrust of horses, and have never been terribly fond of them. The buildings look very nice - love the details that you work in to your pictures :)
