I was just using pictures as reference, but the mini-knight statue...might have to look into that for next time I'm feeling drawing-masochistic. Thanks for the advice!
@alejkahn
armor is hard to do. You really just have to look at the real deal and think about how to light it. I actually go out and buy mini knight statues for reference. Once I have the basic shapes down I just stick to form and etch in texture and lighting. One of these days I will get a full scale suit of armor heh heh heh!
@mlai
shuddap!! I'm going to beat you with the 'homie-b-good' stick and then give you nightmares of tentacle porn!!! hashhhhiisssssssssss D ;< *gypsy spit!
@houseofmuses
I'm very pleased that it resembles some classic techniques, that much is fit for the whole 'medieval' war epic-ness of RoA. The realism comes from my influence with renaissance paintings and sculptures and then mixing that with manga. I think that creates the style. I decided to go with pencil and etching to give it an old parchment look.
Wow...this looks like 18th century woodcuts mixed with 1600s Japanese illustration. I recently debated briefly with a co-judge on the DD Awards about the difference between Japanese illustration and Manga.
The difference is breathtaking realism.
Where's the 10-star dropdown on this menu??
This reminds me of... DRAGON FORCE! Ah now there was a fun wargame (on the Sega Saturn).
And you know what their helmets remind me of? Battle of the Planets (Gotchamen)!! xD
Okay I'll leave your beautiful page alone before I start babbing about corsets and skirts. :)
You create really beautiful layouts! And, you make drawing armor look so effortless and natural. (I've tried before and failed miserably and then threw my pencil and gave up forever!)
