For those of you who are starting to think that this story is getting WAY too wordy for a superhero comic, I apologise…and promise that things will pick up in the next two pages or so.
My case: I wanted to get the basic relationship between Brad and Larry out of the way, as well as what Brad does for a living and how he really feels about it so that - in future - I can focus on the superhero, and not on the actor (there will probably only be one or two pages with Larry in future issues, and the odd page-every-other-issue of Brad at work).
So, sorry again action-fans - things will pick up soon!

A bit late but: You write good dialogue. Keep it up!

Firstly, thank you one and all for your sentiments; now that my original assumptions have been proven quite wrong, it means I can resume writing Retake with a fresh mind, and return it to the comic I had always hoped it to be (originally, I WANTED it to be more talkative/dramatic than other superhero comics. But then I started to get doubts; that 'other superhero comics' are like they are for a reason, that hero-audiences didn't want drama or talky scenes, but just action and villain-smackdowns...so glad I'm wrong). Expect great things to come, now! Lit - Fear not, now that I'm bringing back my original intentions, the actor/hero aspect will remain a strong aspect of the comic. eraknight - Thanks for the comments and - as of right now - 2-D characters are the last thing on my mind. DAJB - Well, I never looked at it like that, but yeah, 'Shades' is a perfect example of how a 'talky' comic can work! Dan - Another attack at Youngblood?! Ouch...and thanks, I never thought of it that way. TheMidge28 - Thanks, and I'm glad you feel that way. spiritmonkey - Thanks mxyzptlk114 & Nepath - Thanks, and my sentiments exactly. alschroeder - Guess I never looked at it like that. And thanks! Always good to meet a new reader.

Hmmm. VERY interesting concept. I keep track of superhero webcomcis, doing one myself--and this is an interesting wrinkle. And don't be afraid of talky scenes---Stan Lee wasn't.

It's always important to know who is under the mask...

it is okay i like a good story as well as action.
TheMidge28 at 7:12AM, March 6, 2008
ditto the sentiments and comments of my fellow commenters. good stories will have the action and the dialogue in equal measure. and the dialogue is good. Not wooden at all as you mentioned on the last page. Keep it up!

I would agree Dave. Have faith in your writing. I wouldn't be drawing it, if I didn't think it was any good. A comic book with nothing but action and no character development is likely to turn out (no offense Rob Liefeld) to turn out like Youngblood!
DAJB at 12:05AM, March 6, 2008
I like talky scenes. Hell, most of my comic is one long talky scene!
eraknight at 12:01AM, March 6, 2008
Me personally i don't mind talky scenes. And he is right about that, if you only focus on the superhero part it's going to suck. Don't get me wrong i'm as big a fan as action as anybody, but if you only focus on one part of what his life is he's going to come off as a two dimensional character.

Not to make assumptions about your audience, but I think they can handle some talky scenes : P. I hope Brad's personal life isn't shoved too far to the side...the actor/superhero aspect is what makes the story unique. Just focus on the hero and you're left with every crappy and generic superhero book that came out during the 90's.
