I don't speak french but I am prettttttyyyyyy sure I got the story lol. At first I just read the English and was like "ohhh what a nice story!" Then I saw that the pictures didn't match up, which was when the pieces all came together lol.
Hmmm, I suppose I have a hard time seeing how this was offensive. It was quite effective in telling 2 stories at once, one sappy and the other disturbing and dark! I thought it was an interesting experiment and toning down the blueberry's twisted ideals would have neutered the joke. I think perhaps someone mistook the happy part as supporting the evil part rather than contrasting, in which case the joke seems to have whizzed right over their head!
I do wonder if they've ever seen a show making fun of subtitles that don't match the dialogue...
at any rate, I thought this was quite clever, even if the blueberry is a jerk!
Xenophobic extemists? Not too far off (if not spot on) for some Quebecois (I can honestly say that, since half my family is Quebecois, and some of them supported that FLQ and currently support Quebec seperatism. The anglophone side of the family thinks they're daft, since Quebec doesn't have a strong enough economy to support independence; plus, all the fanatical separatists would lose their purpose in life.)
It doesn't take much to rile up my fierce angry Quebec feelings!
Grrrr! Those darn quebecer! Speaking french! Being Canadian....having lumberjacks.....I'm running out of things I know about Quebec!
Seriously though, I think taking this as a political commentary is unfair, it is clearly just a joke on the fact that English speakers will startto suspect they are not hearing the whole story.
